NEW TEAM-MATE

Luke O’Neill has become the latest signing for the Championship club Burnley and he will go straight into the squad competing against Kieran Trippier. Kieran Trippier had a great first season with the club last season, but he will have to fight for his place this season due to the arrival of Luke O’Neill. The Burnley manager has said that the club needed to make the signing of Luke O’Neill in order to provide some competition to the current defender Kieran Trippier, who was voted the Burnley player of the year. Kieran Trippier will be up against an inexperienced Luke O’Neill, who played in 43 matches last season for the conference club Mansfield town.

It will be a huge step up for the 20-year-old, but he has expressed confidence that he will be able to compete for the first team spot at Burnley with Kieran Trippier. Joseph Mills has also arrived at the club and the player has said that he wants to make an immediate impact on the club. He comes to the club on a season long loan deal from the Premier league club Reading. Burnley have been active in the transfer window so far and will be hoping that it is rewarded by the promotion to the Premier league next season.

“The competition is great for the lads and I’m up for that challenge. Kieran did really well last season and good on him. I just want to work hard and try and get into the first team. Personally, I think I can make that step up. I played a couple of games for Leicester, I went to Mansfield to get some experience and I’m hoping to get a few games here. When I went down to Conference level, I was surprised how good it was. I think there are a few players in that league that can make the step up,” said Luke O’Neill.
